Alex Mohajer, a trailblazing advocate and Irvine, California native, is embarking on a historic journey in his bid for the California State Senate. At 38, representing the 37th Senate District, Alex stands as a beacon of diversity and change, aspiring to be the first Iranian legislator in California, one of its youngest members, and a groundbreaking figure as one of the first openly gay Iranians elected globally.

Raised by a single mother who immigrated from Iran, Alex's roots in Irvine run deep. His educational journey began in local K-12 public schools and continued at Irvine Valley College, followed by a transformative experience at the University of California, Berkeley. His commitment to his hometown brought him back for law school, where he earned his J.D. from Chapman University School of Law in 2011.

Alex's professional path has been marked by a decade of dedicated public service, focusing on civil rights and advocacy. As a Civil Service Advocate for the County of Los Angeles, he has championed causes related to discrimination, sexual harassment, and protected class status.

A passionate and lifelong LGBTQ+ activist, Alex’s leadership skills shone brightly in 2021 when he was elected President of the Stonewall Democrats, a prestigious LGBTQ+ political advocacy organization. His commitment extends beyond politics, as evidenced by his five years of sobriety and active engagement in helping those battling addiction.

His voice as a political journalist has been recognized with the Excellence in Journalism Award for Feature Writing by the National Association of LGBTQ Journalists in 2018. His activism dates back to his teenage years, notably contributing to Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign in 2016 and playing a pivotal role in the 2018 American mid-term elections.

A familiar face in media, Alex is an ac complished public speaker and commentator, having participated in numerous panels, conferences, and media events nationwide, including Politicon and the Women’s Leadership Conference.

His innovative efforts in voter engagement were highlighted in 2019 when he executive produced the National Vote-at-Home Initiative, which led to over 30,000 voter registrations. This achievement earned him the 2020 Truman Award from the Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley.
